It is now as easy to get rid of a can of leftover paint as it is to buy a new one.

Community depots in Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and M&R Maintenance in Tumbler Ridge now accept paint for exchange and recycling.

Exchange:

All of the above paint depots offer a paint exchange program. Either bring in your leftover paint for someone else to use, or pick-up a can or two for your own project.

Recycle:

All of the paint collected at the depots is sent away to be recycled or disposed of in an environmentally appropriate manner.

Note: Depots accept all residential latex, alkyd and aerosol paints.

Paint Care Tips

Don’t let left-overs happen

Buy only what you need and use it up... or give it someone else who will. Putting on an extra coat often will use up leftovers.

Not down the drain!

Neither latex nor alkyd paint should go down the drain or the storm sewers. Latex wash-water from brush cleaning is OK down the sink, paint thinner is NOT!

Store it upside down

To keep paint fresh, make sure the lid is tightly closed... and then store the can upside down.

Re-use thinners

Paint thinner can be re-used. Leave it in a tightly sealed container until the solids settle out, and the clear liquid can be poured off into a storage container. The remaining solids must be treated as a hazardous waste and disposed of correctly.

Keep paint in its original container

It is your responsibility to make sure household chemicals are kept in their original containers so that they can be properly and easily identified.
