The materials exchange (MEX) concept is simple: What is one person's trash is another person's treasure.

A MEX is designed to keep viable, reusable goods out of local landfills by encouraging "swaps" between businesses, industries, individuals and institutions.

MEX

  • promotes reuse and waste reduction;
  • helps to reduce participant's disposal costs; and
  • provides residents, non-profit organizations, and local businesses with an opportunity to reuse things that others no longer want or need.

Participating in the program saves money and space associated with storage, disposal, and overall landfill waste.

A Materials Exchange Program also encourages businesses, institutions and individuals to review disposal costs and examine the management of their waste products.
