There is a much better way to dispose of your old medications rather than throwing them into the landfill or down the toilet.

You can take out-dated or unused medications to your local pharmacy.

Most provincial pharmacies are part of the Medications Return Program. All of the pharmacies in Peace River Regional District are part of this program.

The medications that you can return to your local pharmacy include:

• All prescription drugs
  
• All non-prescription drugs
  
• Acne therapy
  
• Athlete’s foot treatment
  
• Vitamin and mineral supplements
  
• Throat lozenges
  
• Physicians’ samples are NOT part of EnviRx program.

Taking your old medications back to the pharmacy is a simple way to take care of our environment.

Medications Return Program

Pharmaceuticals are a small but very important component of the waste steam affecting every household in British Columbia. Unused pharmaceuticals pose a significant health, safety and environmental hazard when improperly stored or disposed into the environment.

Medications Return Program began in November 1996. The pharmaceutical industry voluntarily decided to be more environmentally responsible by establishing a program designed for the safe disposal of old medications .

This is called product stewardship —industry finding solutions to household hazardous wastes.
